Irene Montero, MEP and former Minister of Equality, has proposed the implementation of open primaries as the primary mechanism for selecting candidates within the Spanish left. Speaking in Madrid, the Podemos official argued that this process is necessary to break the current cycle of internal disagreement regarding the formation of a unified political front alternative to the PSOE.

Montero indicated her intention to run as a candidate should these primaries be established. She maintains that providing the electorate with a direct voice in the selection process is the most effective way to organize the left-wing space and resolve persistent strategic stagnation.
