Italy approves school decree banning burqa, capping foreign pupils

Italy's Council of Ministers on Thursday approved a new school decree spearheaded by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's government. The legislation introduces strict measures within the educational system, specifically targeting face coverings and the proportion of foreign students in classrooms.

Under the newly approved rules, face coverings such as the burqa and niqab are prohibited in schools. Additionally, the decree establishes a 30 percent cap on foreign pupils who do not speak fluent Italian, applying this limitation to first-year classes.
