Italy bans burqas in schools, caps numbers of foreign students per class

The Italian government, led by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, has adopted a new decree and law banning the wearing of burqas and niqabs in schools. The legislation was passed on Thursday.

In addition to the clothing restrictions, the new measures place a 30 percent cap on the number of students per class who lack adequate Italian language skills or have poor Italian language proficiency.
