Jakarta airport and others reopen after volcanic ash crisis in Indonesia

Indonesia has reopened Jakarta's main airport and several other regional hubs following a days-long volcanic ash crisis. The closures initially affected eight airports over the weekend after hazardous ash was detected in the airspace, though two of the previously closed facilities remain shut.

The widespread disruptions severely impacted national travel, halting nearly 3,000 flights and leaving more than 340,000 passengers stranded before authorities began clearing the hubs for safe operations.
