NewzKINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica will be well represented in the men’s and women’s 100m finals on Saturday’s second day of the inaugural Ultimate Championships at the National Athletics Center in Budapest, Hungary. World Champion Oblique Seville leads the men’s 100m qualifying while three Jamaicans will line up in the women’s final, including Diamond League champion Tina Clayton. Despite a slow start, Seville showed his class as he caught the field and won in 9.90 seconds (-0.2m/s), ahead of Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo, who ran 9.95 seconds to clip Christian Coleman of the USA, who finished with 9.96 seconds.
South Africa’s Gift Leotlela took the other qualifying spot with 10.03 seconds. Ackeem Blake was eighth in the other semi-final in 10.21 seconds. Jonielle Smith was second in the second women’s semi-finals in 10.94 seconds (0.0m/s), behind St Lucia’s Julien Alfred who ran 10.73 seconds (0.0m/s) with Clayton third with 10.98 seconds ahead of Patrizia Van Der Weken of Luxembourg who was fourth in 11.08 seconds.
Brianna Lyston was sixth with 11.18 seconds. Lavanya Williams was third in the first semi-final, running 11.02 seconds (0.1m/s), as the Americans Melissa Jefferson-Wooden - 10.73 seconds and Sha’Carrie Richardson - 10.75 seconds were first and second, respectively. Great Britain’s Amy Hunt was fourth in 11.02 seconds; she finished ahead of Jodean Williams, who ran 11.16 seconds.
