Japan’s Chubu Electric bosses resign over quake data-tampering scandal

President Kingo Hayashi and Chairman Satoru Katsuno of the Japanese utility firm Chubu Electric Power announced their resignations on Monday following a data-tampering scandal involving the company’s nuclear operations. The firm confirmed that both top executives will be replaced as part of the leadership transition.

The scandal is linked to the Hamaoka nuclear plant, where internal pressure from management to expedite the facility's restart contributed to the falsification of earthquake-related data. In response to the controversy, the company has stated it will withdraw from the project.
