Billy Porter has planned to direct and star in a biopic about the Black queer author and activist James Baldwin. In a 2024 interview with The Guardian, Porter explained his motivation for the project by stating, "If not me, who?" and questioning who could tell the story better than a Black gay man who embodies that experience today.
