JNE le llama la atención a la Defensoría del Pueblo por atribuirse funciones del sistema electoral

The Jurado Nacional de Elecciones (JNE) has formally called the attention of the Defensoría del Pueblo regarding its involvement in the 2026 Regional and Municipal Elections. The JNE issued an exhortation for the ombudsman's office to strictly respect the established competencies of the electoral system.

This intervention follows concerns raised by the JNE that the Defensoría del Pueblo’s actions could create confusion among the electorate. The JNE maintains that the implementation of certain initiatives by the ombudsman’s office risks encroaching upon the exclusive functions of the national electoral authorities.
