Young people in Costa Rica rank below the OECD average in mathematics, reading, and science

Students in Costa Rica and Catalonia were recently evaluated on their performance in mathematics, reading, and science relative to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) averages. In Costa Rica, 15-year-old students scored below the OECD average across all three subject areas. Meanwhile, students in Catalonia recorded scores above both the Spanish and OECD averages in the same categories.

The validity of the results for Catalonia has been officially questioned due to an error identified in the sampling process, rendering the data technically invalid. In contrast, the reports regarding Costa Rica focus on the comparative standing of the country's youth against international benchmarks without noting similar procedural irregularities.
