Judge refuses to block Pentagon from firing Stars and Stripes staffers over CBS interview

A federal judge ruled on Friday that the Pentagon may proceed with the termination of three Stars and Stripes staff members. The employees had sought an injunction to block their firing, which they contend was a retaliatory measure for speaking publicly about the necessity of maintaining editorial independence for the military news outlet.

The dispute centers on a July interview with CBS Sunday Morning, during which one staffer stated that she worked for Stars and Stripes rather than the Pentagon or any political administration. The Pentagon subsequently accused two of the journalists involved of insubordination, leading to the disciplinary actions that prompted the legal challenge.
