Judith Green appointed as World Bank Group country manager for Barbados and Eastern Caribbean

WASHINGTON, United States (CMC) — The World Bank Group on Tuesday announced the appointment of Jamaican-born Judith Green as country manager for Barbados and Eastern Caribbean States, effective September 1, this year. Green, who will be based in Barbados, will represent the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA). The Washington-based financial institution said that she will also be working with governments and the private sector to advance job creation and sustainable development across the sub-region.

It said Green brings extensive World Bank Group experience to the position. Most recently, she served concurrently as World Bank Group country manager for Malaysia and IFC Country manager for Papua New Guinea, the Pacific Islands, Australia and New Zealand where she mobilised private sector investment and managed large advisory services programmes. “In these roles, she worked closely with the public and private sector to support public sector reforms and increase private sector investment in both Malaysia and the Pacific region while managing large advisory services programmes,” the World Bank Group added.

Green also brings a rare combination of multilateral and government experience. Between 2013 and 2016, while on external service leave from IFC, she led the Government of Jamaica’s Coordination and Implementation Unit, which was responsible for overseeing the successful implementation of Jamaica’s 2013 four-year Extended Fund Facility with the International Monetary Fund — a landmark economic reform programme for the country. Before joining the World Bank Group, Green had a distinguished career in finance, working at several financial institutions with a focus on corporate finance and global loan capital markets, the World Bank said.
