Dominican Liranyi Alonso wins the 200 meters and takes her third gold medal at the Games

At the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, Dominican Republic athletes secured multiple gold medals in track and field and karate competition events held on a Thursday. In athletics at the Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez, sprinter Liranyi Alonso won the gold medal in the women's 200-meter dash with a time of 23.07 seconds. Additionally, the Dominican men's 4x100 meter relay team—consisting of Franquelo Pérez, Yohandris Andújar, Melbin Marcelino, and Yancarlos Martínez—took gold with a time of 37.9 seconds.

In karate events at the Games, the Dominican Republic earned further gold medals. Thalía Terrero captured the kumite -55kg category title by defeating Cuba's Baurelys Torres 10-3 in the final. Furthermore, the women's kata team composed of María Dimitrova, Belén Guzmán, Perla Peralta, and Carla Espejo also clinched the championship gold medal for the host nation.
