Peruvian justice system renews arrest warrants against former prime minister granted asylum by Mexico

On August 22, Peruvian Supreme Court Judge Juan Carlos Checkley renewed the location and capture orders for former Prime Minister Betssy Chávez. Chávez has been sentenced to 11 years and 5 months in prison.
The charges against the former prime minister stem from her alleged participation in the failed coup d'état attempted by former President Pedro Castillo. Chávez is currently residing in Mexico as an asylee.
