(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA: National singles shuttler Justin Hoh advanced to the quarter-finals of the Taipei Open after defeating Indonesia's Shujiwo Prahdiska Bagas in three games in a last-16 match today. World No 50 Justin beat the Indonesian shuttler, who is ranked seven rungs above him in the international standing, 14-21, 21-11, 21-14 in a match lasting 51 minutes at the Taipei Arena, Taiwan.
In a last-eight match tomorrow, Justin will face either Indonesia’s Richie Duta Richardo or South Korea’s Yoo Tae Bin in this World Tour Super 300 championships. Separately, Malaysia’s challenge in the mixed doubles category ended when the remaining two pairs were eliminated in the second round. Newly paired Chen Tang Jie-Clarissa San went down to Thai pair Ruttanapak Oupthong-Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat 21-17, 12-21, 16-21 in 56 minutes.
The other pair — Low Han Chen-Chan Wen Tse - were knocked out by Taiwanese pair Wu Guan Xun-Lee Chia Hsin 21-18, 21-17 in 35 minutes. Separately, men's singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia went down fighting to Taiwan's reigning All England champion, Lin Chun Yi, in three games in their second-round tie. The world No 53, who has been on a comeback trail since January following a seven-month layoff, fought hard before losing to the tournament's second seed and world No 12, 20-22, 21-11,18-21, in a match that lasted 54 minutes.
Zii Jia's best performance since his return came at the Canada Open last month, where he reached the semi-finals.
