(Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: National men's singles shuttler Justin Hoh pulled off an upset in the first round of the Taipei Open today by defeating higher-ranked Indonesian Zaki Ubaidillah in three games to book a last-16 berth.In a hard-fought 55-minute match, the 50th-ranked Justin beat Zaki, who is ranked 25 places above him, 21-14, 15-21, 21-11 at the Taipei Arena in Taiwan.This is the second time Justin has beaten the Indonesian shuttler in their five encounters so far.Justin will face either Kalle Koljonen from Finland or Indonesia’s Prahdiska Bagas Shujiwo in the next round.In other matches played yesterday, new mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Clarissa San advanced to the second round of the World Tour Super 300 tournament after overcoming Indonesia's Renaldi Samosir-Masita Mahmudin 21-19, 18-21, 22-20 in a tough encounter.The Malaysian duo, who are only playing together for the third time, have an uphill battle in the last-16 where they will face Thailand's fourth-seeded Ruttanapak Oupthong-Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat.However, world No 33 pair Jimmy Wong-Cheng Su Yin, who reached the semi-finals of the Japan Open two weeks ago after beating much higher-ranked pairs, were eliminated in the first round.They were beaten 5-21, 17-21 by Japan's eighth-seeded world No 19 duo Yuta Watanabe-Maya Taguchi.
