JWN Foundation celebrates 69 scholarship recipients

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The JWN Foundation has recognised 69 secondary-level scholarship recipients from Kingston, Clarendon and St Elizabeth as part of its 2026 scholarship programme. The students were celebrated during the foundation’s annual Secondary Scholars Movie Day & Awards Ceremony, held at Palace Cineplex on August 31. The event brought together scholars, parents, volunteers and members of the foundation’s support team to recognise academic achievement and provide students from its focus communities with an opportunity to connect.

Among those receiving special recognition were Sudain Palmer and Adamanie Francis, who were named the programme’s Overall Top PEP Scholars. They each received a commemorative trophy, specialised plaque and back-to-school package containing stationery supplies. Former JWN Foundation scholar Rickardo Anderson, who delivered the keynote address, reflected on his own experience as a scholarship recipient and encouraged the students to take full advantage of the opportunities available to them.

“Receiving support from the JWN Foundation was more than financial assistance. It was a reminder that someone believed in my potential and was willing to invest in my future,” Anderson said. “I encourage every scholar here today to embrace this opportunity, work hard, remain focused on your goals, and never underestimate the impact that education can have on transforming your life,” he added.

Anderson recalled being surprised when he first learnt that he had been selected for a scholarship. “Truthfully, I didn’t think I would get the scholarship. In fact, I was in a taxi when I got the news and I was screaming because I was so shocked and grateful.

I even shed a one tear,” he shared. All scholarship recipients received back-to-school packages and were treated to refreshments and a private movie screening as part of the day’s activities. JWN Foundation Director Clement ‘Jimmy’ Lawrence said the programme represented the organisation’s continued investment in young Jamaicans and their education.

“Our scholars represent the determination, resilience and potential that exist within our communities.
