WALKER Cup champions Kingston College (KC) and Mona High secured places in the quarter-finals of the ISSA Manning Cup with wins over St George’s College and Hillel Academy, respectively, at Stadium East yesterday. KC beat St George’s College 3-0 while Mona thrashed Hillel 8-1. Both schools have won all three matches and are on nine points, making it impossible for four other teams in their respective groups to overtake them with two rounds of matches remaining, as four of the six teams advance.
Shareef Ricketts opened the scoring for KC in the 45th minute before stand-in Captain Deshawn Byfield doubled the lead in the 46th. Zaire Douse completed the scoring with a 25-metre strike. KC remain atop Group 3 with nine points while St George’s College have three points.
Sean Leighton, who scored a hat-trick in their 8-1 win over Hillel, led Mona. Leighton scored in the 29th, 43rd and 46th minutes after Franklyn Mitcham had opened the scoring in the seventh minute. Niquan Allen added Mona’s fifth goal in the 53rd minute before Jermaine Morgan scored twice in the 68th and 77th minutes.
Rajay Douglas also scored in the 74th. Hillel’s Christian Rosen scored in the 73rd minute but Mona maintained their advantage to secure the win. Both teams have played three matches, with Mona on nine points and Hillel on three.
