NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 23 – Detectives have arrested a sitting Kitui County Member of the County Assembly (MCA), Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka, over a series of alleged mobile phone thefts reported in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD). The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said Musyoka, who represents Ikanga/Kyatune Ward, was arrested by detectives from Kamukunji Police Station following investigations into three separate incidents reported in August and September 2026. According to the DCI, detectives acted on intelligence and apprehended the MCA along Mfangano Street in Nairobi, where he had been traced in connection with the reported thefts.

The agency said CCTV footage played a crucial role in the investigations, with detectives positively identifying the suspect in connection with the incidents. The arrest followed a series of reported phone thefts in the CBD that had placed the MCA under investigation. The DCI further revealed that Musyoka has an outstanding warrant of arrest in a separate criminal case.

The suspect is wanted in Criminal Case No. 112/303/2024 after allegedly failing to attend court following his release on bond by the Makadara Law Courts. He had previously been charged with an offence of stealing in the separate case.

The DCI said the outstanding warrant was brought to the attention of detectives following his arrest over the Nairobi CBD phone theft investigations. Musyoka is currently in police custody undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment in court. The DCI did not immediately provide further details on the specific circumstances surrounding the three alleged phone theft incidents or the identities of the complainants.

The investigations are ongoing as detectives prepare to present the suspect before the court to answer to the allegations. The agency reiterated its commitment to pursuing criminal investigations and bringing suspects before the courts regardless of their position in society. “No one is above the law,” the DCI stated, adding that detectives would continue pursuing leads and ensuring suspects face justice.

The arrest places the sitting Kitui MCA at the centre of investigations into alleged phone thefts in Nairobi’s CBD, alongside the separate theft case in which he is wanted for failing to attend court.
