The Andean Community activates its cooperation mechanisms after the earthquake in Colombia

The Colombian government has declared a state of national disaster following a 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck the country. The seismic event caused significant structural damage, including the collapse of dozens of buildings, with the most severe impact reported in the coffee-growing region and the southwest of the country. Reports regarding the human toll vary, citing between 71 and 111 fatalities, with 29 of those deaths occurring in capital cities.

In response to the emergency, the General Secretariat of the Andean Community has activated its cooperation mechanisms. Operating through the Andean Committee for the Prevention and Response to Disasters, the organization is coordinating efforts to provide assistance to Colombia to address the aftermath of the earthquake.
