The Spanish Public Prosecutor's Office and the State Attorney's Office have formally opposed a request to suspend the recent increase in the Electoral Census of Absent Residents (CERA). The increase is a direct result of the implementation of the Law of Democratic Memory, commonly referred to as the 'law of grandchildren,' which facilitates the acquisition of Spanish nationality for descendants of Spaniards abroad.

The request for suspension was initiated by the political party Vox and the organization Iustitia Europa. Legal authorities argued against the motion, noting that granting the suspension would necessitate a retroactive review of nationality grants, a process that falls outside the scope of the specific legal challenge currently under consideration.
