The Government set the roadmap for Congress: why the new Penal Code is still delayed

The status of new penal codes is currently being addressed in two distinct national contexts. In Argentina, the government has established a legislative roadmap for Congress, prioritizing short-term goals over the immediate discussion of a new Penal Code, which remains delayed despite President Javier Milei’s initial expectations for faster reform progress.

Conversely, in the Dominican Republic, a new Penal Code officially entered into force on August 3, 2026. This implementation marks a significant legal transition, replacing legislation that had been in effect for over 140 years and representing a major development in the country's contemporary judicial history.
