Dog and cat adoptions have fallen to their lowest point since the pandemic, with only 42% of animals finding homes.

Dog and cat adoptions dropped to their lowest levels since the pandemic in 2025, according to a study by the Fundación Affinity. Out of more than 285,000 animals that arrived at shelters, only about 120,000 were adopted, representing roughly 42% of the total.

The findings highlight a significant decline in shelter animal placements, reaching the lowest point in the last five years.
