Leo XIV eliminates post-pandemic economic cuts that reduced cardinals' salaries

Pope Leo XIV has officially ended the pandemic-era financial austerity measures that previously reduced the salaries of cardinals in the Curia and other high-ranking Vatican officials. The decision was enacted through the signing of a papal document known as a motu proprio.

The original wage reductions were implemented in 2021 as a financial response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. With the recent signing by Pope Leo XIV, the Vatican has rolled back these salary cuts, restoring previous compensation levels for the high-ranking church officials.
