Malaysia’s Loke resigns as transport minister following Najib’s house arrest approval

Anthony Loke, the secretary-general of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Malaysia’s transport minister, has announced his intention to step down from his cabinet position. The resignation follows the Pardons Board's recent decision to grant former prime minister Najib Razak a conditional pardon, allowing him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest.

Loke’s decision was communicated following a three-hour meeting of the party's central executive committee. While the resignation reflects the political tension surrounding the pardon, Loke emphasized that the DAP remains committed to maintaining the stability of the current government.
