London insurers expand Red Sea high-risk zone after Houthi attacks

London’s marine insurance market has expanded the section of the Red Sea classified as high risk. The Joint War Committee adjusted the northern boundary of its designated risk zone following renewed attacks on commercial vessels in the area.

The expansion of the high-risk zone comes in response to ongoing maritime security threats posed by Houthi attacks. These security incidents have directly impacted commercial shipping lanes in the region, prompting marine insurers to reassess and broaden the geographic parameters where additional war-risk premiums and coverage adjustments apply.
