Coral reefs globally have experienced a 9.5 percent loss in mass over the past four decades due to rising ocean temperatures, according to reports from Cairo dated August 31.

Despite this significant decline, scientific assessments indicate that an irreversible collapse of the reefs can still be avoided if marine temperature increases are successfully controlled, as the corals retain their capacity to regenerate.
