Market Bag: Soup vendor Bulbie shops for staples as prices fluctuate

Persistent dry conditions continue to impact farming, pushing up the prices of some produce including tomatoes at $150 per pound, Scotch bonnet peppers at $350 per pound, sweet peppers at $400 per pound, bananas at $1,400 a dozen and lettuce at $700 per head. Plantains ($700 for three) also continue to be a pricey commodity. Still, other food items held steady or declined, including onions at $200 per pound.
