Jason Lewis, the Winchester Democrat who helped lead the push for an extra tax on million-dollar incomes and the overhaul of school funding, announced in February that he would not run for reelection after 12 years in the Senate and five in the House.Three candidates have stepped forward to replace him in a seat representing Malden, Melrose, Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield and part of Winchester. Four candidates are running in the Massachusetts Senate’s 2nd Middlesex District to replace outgoing Sen. Patricia Jehlen, who has spent 35 years in the Legislature, including 21 in the Senate.The district includes Somerville, Medford and pieces of Cambridge and Winchester.
