Polio vaccination targets 587,000 children in Coast Region

Tanzania is launching a second round of a national polio vaccination campaign targeting children under the age of 10. The initiative aims to reach 6.5 million children across eight regions, including the Coast Region, where 587,509 children are slated for immunization. The four-day oral vaccination drive is scheduled to begin on August 27.

The campaign follows the detection of the polio virus in environmental samples, specifically within wastewater. Health officials are coordinating the effort to mitigate further spread of the virus through this widespread public health intervention.
