Ollanta Humala is released from prison: his father Isaac Humala claimed that the former president was “kidnapped” by the Judiciary

The Peruvian Judiciary has ordered the immediate release and excarceration of former President Ollanta Humala. The decision was issued by the First National Preparatory Investigation Court in compliance with a ruling by the Tribunal Constitucional, Peru's highest court.

The Constitutional Tribunal annulled the entirety of the penal process and investigation against Humala, which involved charges of money laundering and alleged false contributions related to his electoral campaigns. Humala, who governed Peru from 2011 to 2016, had been serving a 15-year prison sentence at the Barbadillo prison.

Following the court's order for his immediate release, the former president's father, Isaac Humala, publicly asserted that his son had been "kidnapped" by the Judiciary.
