Mayors and other local leaders could be given powers to oversee water firms

The UK government is considering plans to grant mayors and local leaders new powers to oversee water companies, bringing utilities under greater public control. Under these proposals, nine new regional bodies would be established to handle regional planning, set objectives, and hold water firms accountable.

The initiative would give local politicians a direct role in monitoring company spending. Additionally, it would empower leaders to hold corporate bosses accountable regarding consumer water bills and ongoing sewage discharge issues.
