The Autonomous City of Melilla has reinforced its child protection system following an extraordinary increase in the arrival of unaccompanied foreign minors. The number of minors under the guardianship of the local government nearly doubled in a matter of days, rising from 166 to 312.

This surge is directly attributed to recent border pressure and a migration crisis that led to approximately 140 new arrivals in a short period. In response to the sudden strain on local resources, authorities have taken steps to bolster the region's capacity to care for and protect the influx of vulnerable youth.
