What we know about the floods in Nepal: 98 dead and hundreds missing

Violent flash floods have struck regions spanning both sides of the border between Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, resulting in at least 98 fatalities. In addition to the confirmed deaths, hundreds of people remain missing or unreachable following the disaster.

The sudden inundation has caused severe infrastructure damage in the affected border zones. Reports indicate that bridges have been destroyed and roads left impassable, compounding the difficulties of search and rescue operations for the hundreds of unaccounted-for individuals.
