Mexico rules out presence of Cyclospora in Riviera Maya hotels after reports of cases in tourists from the United Kingdom

On August 11, the Mexican Ministry of Health announced that laboratory tests conducted on food and water samples from 16 hotels in the Riviera Maya did not detect the presence of Cyclospora cayetanensis. This parasite is known to cause severe gastrointestinal illness, often referred to as explosive diarrhea.

The investigation was initiated following reports from tourists from the United Kingdom who claimed to have contracted the parasite while staying in the region. The negative results from the government analysis serve as an official response to these health concerns regarding the safety of hotel facilities in the area.
