NewzA former piano teacher, Rudolph Infante, was back in front of a judge Wednesday morning for a plea hearing.The proposed deal called for five years of probation with no jail time in exchange for a guilty plea. But the judge denied the deal after the victim said five years of probation was not enough.According to police, a Miami Southridge Senior High School student told investigators Infante made inappropriate comments to her, including, “If I was only 30 years younger... I can’t wait to be with you.”He is accused of hitting on the student, inappropriately touching her and allegedly kissing her chest.
The teen told police she felt afraid.Infante was charged with four counts of battery and one count of offenses against students by authority figures.The case will continue. Authorities say a driver slammed his Cadillac into a home just outside of Coral Gables in June, killing an 82-year-old man sleeping inside. They now say the driver was drunk at more than thrice the legal limit ― and took him into custody early Wednesday morning.According to an arrest report from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened at around 7:30 p.m. on June 24 at a home in the 2900 block of Southwest 57th Avenue, in the unincorporated Coral Terrace area.The MDSO report states that Allen Matis, 67, of Coral Gables, was driving a Cadillac Lyriq on Palermo Avenue when he ran a stop sign and slammed the SUV into the home, crashing through the wall and hitting Henri Bezy as he slept inside.Bezy “became trapped underneath (the) vehicle” and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews pronounced him dead at the scene, the report states.According to the report, a deputy saw Matis behind the wheel and “observed signs of impairment.” It states that toxicology results taken from blood samples hours after the crash showed Matis’ blood alcohol content ranging from 0.245% to 0.29%, more than three times the legal limit.Deputies said they later obtained vehicle data showing that Matis accelerated to 43 mph and never hit the brakes “during the seconds leading up to the crash.”Matis was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on charges of DUI manslaughter and reckless vehicular homicide.
His bond was listed as “to be set” as of Wednesday afternoon. A car crash in Miami Gardens sent three people, including a child, to local trauma centers Wednesday afternoon, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.The crash happened just before 2 p.m. in the 17000 block of Northwest 47th Avenue.Video from Sky 10 shows a vehicle on the sidewalk, crashed into the rear of a pickup truck with MDFR and Miami Gardens police at the scene.According to MDFR, medics took one adult victim and the child victim to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital’s trauma center by ambulance.The other adult was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, an MDFR spokesperson said.One of the victims was trapped and had to be freed from the vehicle, according to MDFR.Additional details about the victims’ conditions and what led up to the crash weren’t immediately known as of around 2:45 p.m.
