Thousands of demonstrators participated in a Festival for Democracy in Magdeburg, the capital of the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. Local press estimated the turnout at approximately 6,000 people.

The demonstration took place on Saturday, just ahead of regional elections in the state where the right-wing extremist party AfD enters as the favored political force.
