MoCU to admit 5,000 Form Four leavers

KILIMANJARO: MOSHI Cooperative University (MoCU), in partnership with the Prime Minister’s Office–Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG), expects to admit more than 5,000 Form Four graduates who were not selected to join Advanced Level studies during the 2026/27 academic year. The university’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alban Mchopa, announced the plan over the weekend while announcing the opening of the 2026/27 higher learning institutions admission window by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU). He said the programme enables O-Level graduates to use their Form Four certificates to pursue certificate and diploma courses, providing an alternative pathway into higher education.

“We expect to admit more than 5,000 students through the PMO-RALG arrangement this academic year,” Prof Mchopa said. He noted that the initiative addresses the growing number of Form Four graduates who miss out on limited Advanced Level places by equipping them with practical, market-driven skills instead of leaving them without further education opportunities. ALSO READ: MoCU to address unemployment through new programmes According to him, the programme will help reduce youth unemployment and marginalisation while preparing graduates for selfemployment and careers in sectors with growing demand, including business and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

“The training provides an alternative route into the labour market by equipping students with practical skills that employers need,” he said. Prof Mchopa added that the initiative will also help bridge skills gaps in ICT and business-related fields, strengthen human capital through certificate and diploma training and support the country’s drive to promote technical and professional education. He said the secondchance education programme also allows beneficiaries to progress to higher levels of university education while improving their employment prospects and contributing to national economic development.
