ST JAMES, Jamaica – Montego Bay United (MBU) are the new leaders in the Jamaica Premier League after edging hapless Dunbeholden FC 1-0 in their first round game played at Jarrett Park on Sunday. With back-to-back 1-0 wins, the unbeaten MBU have moved to 10 points, one more than Racing United who hammered Molynes United 6-0; Tivoli Gardens are third on eight points after handing a first loss to newcomers Tru-Juice who fell to fourth place on seven points. Jourdain Fletcher scored a third minute goal, his second in consecutive games, as MBU extended Dunbeholden’s poor start to four straight losses.

Dunbeholden had a big opportunity to at least get a point but MBU’s goalkeeper Davonnie Burton saved Stephen Barnett’s 88th minute penalty, three minutes after he was brought into the game as a substitute. Nickyle Ellis scored a double for Racing United as they rebounded from their loss to MBU last weekend to score a lop-sided win over Molynes United in the first game of a double header at Sabina Park. Ranaldo Biggs made it 4-0 in the 65th minute while Jakob Cole in the 72nd minute and Kadean Young in the 85th also scored. At the Bramwell Clarke Sports Complex in Linstead, Daniel Omuzo scored in the 22nd minute and Steve Clarke in time added at the end of the first half, as Tivoli Gardens won their second game of the season. Tivoli snapped a run of two draws as Tru-Juice’s defence was breached for the first time this season.

Cavalier FC and Mt Pleasant FA played out a 1-1 draw in the second game at Sabina Park as Cavalier’s perfect start ended after two wins. Cavalier led as early as the third minute before Trayvone Reid equalised in the 20th minute with his second goal of the season and second in successive games. The point saw Cavalier move one place up to fifth on seven points while, after opening the season with back-to-back losses, Mt Pleasant are on four points and moved up two places to eighth.

Humble Lion rallied to earn a 1-1 draw against Treasure Beach FC at the STETHS Sports Complex to earn their first point since returning to the JPL.
