Neonatal deaths account for 80% of infant deaths

According to the Dominican Republic's Ministry of Public Health, neonatal deaths account for 80% of total infant mortality in the country. Data from the epidemiological bulletin for week 32 indicates that, as of August 15, there have been 1,131 recorded infant deaths. Of that total, 911 occurred during the neonatal period.
