Neonatal deaths account for 80% of infant deaths

According to the Ministry of Public Health in the Dominican Republic, neonatal deaths account for 80 percent of all infant fatalities in the country. Data from the epidemiological bulletin for the 32nd week shows that out of 1,131 total infant deaths recorded up to August 15, a total of 911 involved newborns.

The figures highlight a continuing public health challenge regarding infant mortality rates, with the vast majority of cases concentrated in the neonatal period. The Ministry's weekly report underscores the disproportionate impact of newborn deaths on overall infant mortality statistics for the current year.
