Father Javier Giraldo, known for leading the search for the remains of Camilo Torres and his defense of human rights, has died.

The Jesuit priest Javier Giraldo, a prominent human rights defender in Colombia, died on Tuesday at the age of 82. Known for his persistent advocacy on behalf of vulnerable and rarely heard communities, Giraldo dedicated his life to defending human rights and supporting the San José de Apartadó Peace Community.

In addition to his broader human rights work, Giraldo was widely recognized for leading the efforts to locate the remains of Camilo Torres, the priest-turned-guerrilla. His decades-long activism made him a key historical reference point for human rights and social justice advocacy in Colombia.
