Zimbabwe: Mutsvangwa Says Zanu-PF Feared 'Detractors' Would Hijack 2028 Elections

ZANU PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa stated that the party enacted Constitutional Amendment Act Number 3 to prevent political opponents from hijacking the 2028 elections. According to the party, this legislative move was necessary to avoid being ambushed by forces opposed to the ruling administration during the electoral process.

The amendment extends President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s tenure in office until 2030. The party characterizes this extension as a strategic measure to secure its governance against external and internal detractors who they claim posed a threat to the party's position in the upcoming election cycle.
