New housing reserve: Greece eases conversion of old industrial and commercial buildings into apartments

The Greek parliament has approved new legislation aimed at increasing the national housing supply by facilitating the conversion of underutilized industrial and commercial properties into residential units. The amendments, introduced by the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family, allow for the transformation of thousands of vacant factories, workshops, warehouses, offices, and tourist properties across the country into apartments.

This initiative is designed to address housing shortages by repurposing existing infrastructure that has fallen into disuse. By streamlining the regulatory process for these conversions, the government intends to expand the availability of residential space within urban and commercial areas, effectively creating a new housing reserve from previously non-residential assets.
