New Hungarian foreign-policy priorities set out for relations with Putin’s Russia, the MAGA world, the EU, the V4, NATO and the Balkans

The Hungarian Institute of International Affairs has formally articulated a new set of foreign policy priorities for the Hungarian government. The strategy focuses on recalibrating the nation's diplomatic approach across several key areas, including relations with Russia under Vladimir Putin, the political movement associated with the American MAGA faction, the European Union, the Visegrád Group (V4), NATO, and the Balkan region.

This policy shift, presented by the institute’s director-general and deputy, serves as a comprehensive framework for Hungary's international engagements. By addressing these specific geopolitical entities, the government aims to establish a structured direction for its foreign affairs, balancing its commitments within Western alliances against its strategic interests in Eastern Europe and beyond.
