Niclas Füllkrug hitting new heights for Werder Bremen after rescuing point in Dortmund

Sports 1 source 1 country 🔦 Under-reported 37m ago

It was a strike of real significance for Füllkrug, who is arguably in the best form of his career, having now scored in four consecutive Bundesliga matches for the first time. The last Werder player to achieve such a run was Max Kruse, who also netted in four straight league games in March 2019. It was also Füllkrug’s first goal against Dortmund, scored on his first return to the Westfalenstadion after leaving the club following the 2023/24 season.

During his sole season at BVB, the striker managed 15 goals in 43 total competitive appearances in a campaign which included reaching the UEFA Champions League final. Even so, the 33-year-old was understandably delighted after glancing his header past a stranded Gregor Kobel. But it was a goal for Werder, not against BVB,” explained Füllkrug after the final whistle.
