New school year: Minerd prioritizes strengthening digital education

The Dominican Republic has officially commenced the 2026-2027 school year, welcoming 2.6 million students back to classrooms. The inaugural ceremony took place at the Escuela Básica Espejo La Milagrosa in Santo Domingo Este, led by President Luis Abinader and Minister of Education Luis Miguel De Camps.

The Ministry of Education (Minerd) has outlined a strategic focus for the academic year centered on digital integration and structural improvements. Key priorities include expanding coverage for the initial education level and reforming the secondary school curriculum to emphasize technical-professional training and technological proficiency.
