Miami-Dade Animal Services took a dog named Diablo from its owner on Thursday, a day after the American pit bull severely bit a 17-year-old girl. The girl’s injuries were so severe that she needed surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital, according to the information shared with Local 10. Her mother provided pictures of the injuries.Miami-Dade Animal Services told Local 10 the incident was not reported to the agency. Officials said they did not respond to the call and had no information on the dog.Diablo’s owner said she had him since he was a few months old.
She said she rented a space for him to live comfortably with a mother and her two children. The owner said she was frustrated that police did not report the incident to animal control and that she initially was not allowed to surrender the dog.“It was very frustrating. The police did not report it to animal control. They wouldn’t let me surrender,” she said.
“I’m a very, very responsible dog owner. That’s why I felt like it was important to do the right thing for him.”The surrender was emotional for the owner, who said she felt relief knowing Diablo could no longer hurt anyone but was also heartbroken to lose her pet.“I feel good because I know he can’t hurt anybody anymore. It’s bittersweet because that was my baby.
He’s gone,” she said.When asked what she would tell another dog owner faced with the decision to give up a pet, she said, “You got to do what’s right.” .l10-neighborhood, .l10-neighborhood * { box-sizing: border-box; } .l10-neighborhood{ --blue-dark:#0d2c73; --blue:#1f57c4; --blue-light:#3370e6; --gray-bg:#f2f3f5; --gray-border:#d6d8dc; --text-dark:#1a1a1a; --white:#ffffff; font-family:system-ui,-apple-system,"Segoe UI",Roboto,Arial,sans-serif; max-width:860px; margin:1.5rem auto; border-radius:10px; overflow:hidden; border:1px solid var(--gray-border); background:var(--gray-bg); box-shadow:0 4px 14px rgba(0,0,0,.12); text-align:center; } .l10-head{ background:linear-gradient(90deg,var(--blue-dark),var(--blue)); color:var(--white); padding:12px 16px; font-weight:800; text-transform:uppercase; font-size:1rem; letter-spacing:.3px; display:flex; justify-content:center; align-items:center; gap:8px; } .l10-body{ max-width:740px; margin:0 auto; padding:0 16px 18px; } .l10-sub{ margin:12px 0 10px; font-size:.95rem; color:var(--text-dark); font-weight:500; text-align:center; } .l10-grid{ display:grid; g… A protest by black-owned South Florida businesses is aimed at drawing attention to what they say is a big problem.It is a last resort of sorts for owners along a parking plagued portion of Northwest 22nd Avenue in northwest Miami-Dade County. Eddie Young is the owner of Famous Car Wash and he says business has been way down, all because of an ongoing Miami-Dade Sewer project that has closed roads, and it’s been going on for more than four years.“We depend on the customers to come in here to pay our bills,” said Young.
“We’re barely paying the water and light bill here man.”The constant construction is putting the future of his once prized business up in the air.“This our first time in almost four years asking anyone for help,” he said. “We’re in the process of shutting down man. It’s ridiculous man, and it seems like nobody cares.”The county is installing 9,200 linear feet of sanitary sewer infrastructure and another 9,500 linear feet of water main and service lines. However, the project started in 2022 and was supposed to be completed by 2024, but that construction timeline has been extended until at least March of 2027.The original contract cost also ballooned from $7.2 million to $12.6 million because of unanticipated soil, roadway and underground utility issues. Some businesses between 79th Street and 90th Street, like the car wash, did receive a grant, but that was well before the project was hit with a five-year timeline.“It was something to help us, but it wasn’t enough,” Young said.
