Nostalgia among the waves: The sad uprooting of the Afro-descendant communities of the Gulf of Panama

Afro-descendant communities from the islands of Casaya, Casayeta, and Bolaño within Panama's Las Perlas archipelago are demanding the return of families who were forced to leave the region. The displacement resulted from territorial loss, the closure of the local school, and a lack of basic services.

Separately, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OACNUDH) called on Honduras to strengthen its efforts against racism and discrimination. The UN agency also urged authorities to guarantee the protection of the rights of Afro-descendant populations in the country.
