OPP officer charged with assault for incident during traffic stop in North York

An Ontario Provincial Police officer has been charged with assault following an investigation into a traffic stop in North York that occurred in January. The incident took place when the officer, who was operating an unmarked vehicle, pulled over a driver.

Following the event, the OPP Professional Standards Unit launched an internal investigation into the use of a conducted energy weapon during the stop. As a result of the findings, the officer, who has nine years of service, is now facing multiple assault charges.
