Otti backs creation of south-east’s first national park in Abia

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has formally endorsed the establishment of the first national park in Nigeria’s South-East region. During a meeting with a delegation from the National Park Service, led by its Governing Council, the governor directed officials to identify a suitable forest reserve within the state to host the facility.

The initiative is intended to support broader state-level efforts to trace and conserve Abia's existing forest reserves. By facilitating the creation of this national park, the administration aims to integrate local conservation goals with federal environmental management frameworks.
